Prof Purushothaman Premchand

Prof. Prem Premchand MD FRCP is an interventional gastroenterologist with NHS practice at Queens Hospital, Romford and private practices at Spire Hartswood Hospital in Brentwood and at the Queen Anne’s Street Medical centre, London.

He is the Medical Director of Gutcare.org Ltd, providing insourcing in GI services for NHS Hospitals. Gutcare specialises in cost-effective, safe and patient-friendly endoscopy services. Gutcare helps NHS hospitals in their endoscopy and GI clinic waiting lists management and achieve RTT targets in a timely manner.

He has performed more than 10,000 colonoscopies with 95% caecal intubation rate and more than 6000 ERCP’s. He has performed more than 650 endoscopic obesity balloons with an average weight loss of more than 2 stones in 12 months. His obesity work is through the National Obesity Surgery Centre.

His clinical interests are colitis, Crohn’s disease, upper and lower GI cancer, irritable bowel syndrome, bariatric endoscopy (obesity balloons) and liver diseases. QASMC has Olympus stack system for endoscopy and provides gastroscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy and colonoscopy.

He has received training in robotic colonoscopy at the Endotics laboratory in Pisa, Italy. This new technology is a safe, painless colonoscopy that doesn’t require sedation or decontamination. This procedure is available at QASMC from August 2018.
